Between Siculiana Marina and Eraclea Minoa is a coastline, the Natural Reserve of Torre Salsa, where the chalk cliffs alternate with the limestone to Globigerina marls, sometimes covered by layers of clay. The herbaceous and bush vegetation that covers the environment, sometimes inaccessible, sometimes gives you access to the beautiful beach by narrow paths among the rocks. The sea is clear, the lush backdrops of rich flora and fauna.
La Torre Salsa, ancient sighting tower, is located in the heart of this oasis and dominates the top of a small promontory of clay from which it transpires, where the process of erosion is more intense, the white limestone marl.
Seaside a jagged rocky plateau creates a myriad of paths, where fish dart among the algae fast and slow crustacean found refuge. The impervious nature of the places preserved by lottizzazione quest'oasi and projected, for the variety and beauty of its environments, the importance of flora and fauna, among the most interesting areas of Sicily, deserving the utmost protection.
The territory of the Reserve of Torre Salsa, extended falls to 761.62 hectares in the province of Agrigento in the territory of the Municipality of Siculiana.
Its coastline stretches along the coast for about 6 kilometers where you can see the alternation of rock more or less steep, endless dunes and beaches and solitary goal, in the summer, lovers of bathing.
Behind the cliff there are natural terraces where it is developed the agricultural landscape.
These terraces, well-molded, engraved by some highly branched streams and deep, as the stream and the stream Cannicella Eremita, which flow into the sea by building beautiful scenic views. Around these terraces, on the one side the cliff and the sea, and the landscape more inaccessible and mountainous, culminating in the peaks of Monte Stella (148.40 m) with a slope overlooking the sea, Mount Dome ( mt. 170) on top of which you can see signs of inert materials quarries now abandoned for years and Monte Eremita (162.50 m).
Dell'Eremita between upstream and the promontory of Salsa where stands the ruins of Torre Salsa, there is a large depression characterized by the presence of the stream Salso said "Pantano".
The area around it is subject to natural flooding, which makes, especially in winter, inaccessible.
In the summer the swamp dries and through a Trazzera that you can reach along the beach. In this area there are lots of farmland, an afforestation area equipped with picnic and, in the promontory of Salsa, a large reforestation that comes up the dunes and hedgerows bordering land cultivated with crops.
